Dental Bridges

What are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth in your mouth. Most often, the bridge is attached to two surrounding teeth, and the middle part of the bridge simply sits on top of the gum line to replace what’s missing. Most bridges can last for decades before replacement may be necessary. They’re a suitable alternative to having dental implants placed.

Why are Dental Bridges needed?

A dental bridge is typically needed if you’re missing a natural tooth. The bridge is similar to a crown, but it is larger in size and is used to replace missing dentition. Not only are bridges cosmetic in nature, as they fill in your smile, but they can be restorative in nature, improving the overall function of your teeth. You’ll find that it’s easier to enjoy your favorite foods when you have a new bridge in place.

Who is a good candidate for Dental Bridges?

With the help of an examination, we can determine if, and when, you may need to have a bridge placed. Patients who aren’t good candidates for implants can benefit from having a bridge placed instead. Bridges are durable and long-lasting, with most lasting for decades. They are custom-made for each individual patient so that they look completely natural, blending seamlessly with existing teeth.

What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?

We begin by administering a local anesthetic to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for you. We then file down the two surrounding teeth to make enough room for the bridge. After this is done, we take impressions of the area, and use these molds to make the new bridge. Your second appointment involves coming in and having the bridge placed. We’ll adjust the fit and bite of the new bridge, and you’ll leave the office being able to enjoy your brand new smile. With proper hygiene and care, your bridge can last for many years and still look great.

If you think you might need a dental bridge, call our office today, and we can help to answer any of your questions regarding this procedure.

CORONAVIRUS HEALTH UPDATE

Our dear patients,

We hope that this message reaches you well and in good spirits during this trying time. As this global pandemic continues to run its course, we sincerely hope that you are doing your best to take care of yourself physically and mentally. While we are unable to operate business as usual, we are still here for you in cases of emergency. If you find that you are experiencing dental pain, tooth fracture, uncontrolled oral bleeding, and/or extreme sensitivity, please do not hesitate to give us a call at 404-549-2650. We are available for virtual consults or will get you scheduled to come into the office.

Unfortunately, we will be operating in this limited fashion for an uncertain amount of time and will be sure to notify you once it is safe to continue non-emergency treatment. Here, at Brookhaven Dental Group, we have always practiced CDC and OSHA standards of infection and will continue to operate only under their direction.

In the spirit of a line from a poem that China sent to Italy, “We are all waves from the same sea.” Meaning that no matter where you are or how this pandemic may be affecting you, we’re all in it together. The ebb and flow of life right now is not what we’re used to but staying in place is necessary to get us to our new normal quicker.

Thank you to each one of you for being such a vital part of the reason why BDG just celebrated 2 years of being in practice. We’re here when you need us and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Be well,
Dr. Brown
